Uber sexual assault claims have no single national filing deadline. Your deadline comes from the civil sexual-assault law of the state where you file. This guide explains how state rules set that date. It also shows where California and New York City allow some older claims to be filed now.

Why Is There No Single Deadline?
Civil filing deadlines are set state by state. RAINN's database explains civil deadlines vary by state and differ for civil versus criminal cases, adults versus children, and discovery and tolling rules.
A criminal charge does not control your civil filing date. Your age at the time and when you linked injury to assault can shift the civil date.
Does Federal Coordination Change Your Deadline?
Federal passenger cases are grouped for shared pretrial work. That grouping does not create a new filing deadline. The Lawsuit Information Center reports about 4,916 cases were pending in the federal group by October 2026, with added claims in California state court.
Each survivor keeps a separate lawsuit and separate damages. File in the correct court before your state date passes. Waiting for group proceedings will not save a late claim.

What Are California's Current Deadlines?
FindLaw quotes California Code of Civil Procedure section 340.16 for adult claims. It gives the later of 10 years from the last assaultive act or 3 years after discovering the assault caused the injury. The same statute revives adult claims based on conduct on or after January 1, 2009.
FindLaw's text covers claims filed on or after January 1, 2019 that were barred only by time limits, allowing filing through December 31, 2026. That revival does not restore claims decided to finality or settled in writing before January 1, 2023. Check these limits before you count on the window:.
- conduct on or after January 1, 2009
- no final judgment on the claim
- no written settlement before January 1, 2023
- file by December 31, 2026
What Is New York City's Temporary Filing Window?
New York City added a temporary lookback to its Gender-Motivated Violence Act. Rheingold Law describes an 18-month window for violence on or before January 9, 2022, with filing from January 29, 2026 through July 29, 2027.
It applies even if the normal time had expired. That window helps only claims that fit the city law and dates. File before July 29, 2027 if you plan to use that New York City window.
